Book design and text setting for the first text in a series on the poetry and science of alchemy

On the Quintessence of Wine is a monograph written by alchemist, film maker and book artist Brian Cotnoir. The main essay, including quotes, footnotes, and end notes of Latin translations, is accompanied by a series of woodcuts from primary sources. Several woodcuts were also done by the author. Book proportions and typography are based on the 16th century text De consideratione quintae essentiae rerum omnium, by Rupescissa. The text is set in Albertina Book Roman by the Dutch Type Library. 88 pages, 4.5" x 6".
